DESCRIPTION

A sweet, well-balanced, full-bodied coffee from the Guatemalan regions of Huehuetenango and Baja Verapaz. Notes of stone fruit, lime, and caramel are complemented by a wonderfully silky body.

This fully washed 100% Arabica coffee is grown by 1,796 women coffee farmers at elevations between 1,400 and 1,700 meters (4,590–5,580 feet).

With an SCA score of 84.25, La Morena stands out for its exceptional quality and beautifully balanced flavor profile.

MORE ABOUT LA MORENA

For many years, Guatemala’s coffee industry has been largely male-dominated. Even today, many women face significant challenges in successfully managing their farms and achieving long-term economic independence.

La Morena was created to help change that. The project brings together coffee produced exclusively by women, creating better market opportunities while strengthening the long-term economic independence of women coffee farmers throughout Guatemala.

What began in 2015 with just 22 women producers in Huehuetenango has grown into a community of 1,796 women coffee farmers across the regions of Huehuetenango and Baja Verapaz.

Through a dedicated farmer support program, participants receive training in sustainable farming practices, coffee quality improvement, farm management, and financial literacy. Experienced producers share their knowledge with other women in their communities, creating lasting benefits that extend far beyond individual farms.

The project also partners with Wakami, an organization that provides women in rural Guatemala with training in finance, bookkeeping, and market access. Its goal is to help participants build sustainable sources of income and strengthen their economic independence for the future.

For every pound of La Morena coffee sold, 15 cents are donated to Wakami. By purchasing this coffee, you support the work of women coffee farmers and invest in a more sustainable future for rural communities in Guatemala.

This 100% Arabica coffee is packaged in a resealable aroma-preserving bag.

All Our Coffee Is Specialty Coffee

Around the equator, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, lies the coffee belt – the region where coffee grows under ideal climatic conditions.

Specialty Coffee stands for exceptional quality: carefully selected beans, distinctive aromas and artisanal roasting.

That is exactly what all our coffees stand for.
